FAQ about the election Didn't Bush win by 3.5 million votes? Nobody knows how many voters actually chose to vote for Bush. But that would be a misleading number, anyway. In the U.S., presidents are not elected by popular vote. In order to win, a candidate must be awarded the most electoral votes. Bush's announced electoral vote margin was 286 to Kerry's 251. If Kerry had been awarded the 20 electoral votes from the state of Ohio, where evidence shows he was the true victor, Kerry would have been declared the winner with 271 electoral votes to Bush's 266. If the electoral votes of other states where Bush's declared victories are in doubt were awarded to Kerry, Kerry's margin of victory would have been even greater. Were the problems that happened in Ohio really enough to change the results of that state's election? Yes. The combination of Kerry votes lost through disenfranchisement and votes that should have been counted for Kerry remaining uncounted or being counted for Bush, was enough to change the results of the Ohio presidential election. (See investigations section for documentation.) What's up with those exit polls? Discrepancies between exit polls and vote totals are generally considered to be proof of election fraud, such as in Ukraine in 2004, where even the U.S. government claimed that the exit polls proved fraud, and a revote was held that flipped the election. Here in the U.S. there were monumental discrepancies between the exit polls in swing states and the official vote counts for the 2004 election. Edison-Mitofsky, the polling firm, claims that the polls were wrong but the vote totals were correct. On January 31, 2005, USCountVotes.org released a study refuting these claims and showing the exit polls to be the truest indication of the will of the voters available. (Please note that even the exit polls do not count the votes of those who were disenfranchised.) http://uscountvotes.org/ucvAnalysis/US/USCountVotes_Re_Mitofsky-Edison.pdf Where's Kerry? This one is multiple choice: Is this as bad as 2000? So far there is much more evidence of election theft in 2004 than there was in 2000. Questions remain: Was there more theft or are we getting better at digging it up? When was the last time there was a truly fair presidential election in this country? What other elections have been stolen at the state or local level? These are less frequently asked questions that perhaps should be asked--and answered. How could this have happened with all those lawyers "on the ground during the election?" Has anyone counted the number of lawyers inside the Triad electronic vote tabulation machines, or the electronic voting machines made by Sequoia and ES&S? Just wondering. The efforts of the Election Protection Coalition were designed to make sure people were able to vote, and in this respect these effotrs were somewhat successful. However, many of the dirty tricks in this election happened beyond the view of these committed volunteers through manipulation of voting and vote counting technology as well as failure to count ballots, among other means. The presence of over 25,000 volunteers--many of them lawyers--working for the Election Protection Coalition in 17 states did not prevent the theft of the election. It did, however, create a huge database of first-hand accounts of incidents of voter suppression and intimidation as well as other election irregularities. The efforts of these fine people (I was one of them) also assisted voters whose votes would not have been cast without our help. Tragically, the EPC and other fair election advocates were unable to prevent the electronic thievery or other outright violations of law, such as the illegal lockdown of the administration building in Warren County, Ohio while votes were counted inside on election night. Isn't it all over and time to move on? To "move on" when the truth is known--that Bush/Cheney are not the rightful winners of the election--is to abandon the idea of fair elections in this country. If an election can be stolen without repercussions, why would any future election ever be fair? The 2004 elections must be thoroughly investigated and those responsible for its theft be made to answer for their crimes. |
